Do This Before Choosing A Career
There is no substitute for life experience, but If I could rewind time, I would tell my 18-year-old self to take the following tests before deciding on a career path:
Best Test for Preparing You for the Workplace: CliftonStrengths
The CliftonStrengths assessment is an incredible tool for learning how you solve problems, approach work situations, and understand information. CliftonStrengths recommends that you focus on your top five strengths rather than weaknesses. This allows you to improve much faster than focusing on your weaknesses. There are several books available if you’d like to learn more about your strengths, including books on leadership and parenting.
Best Test for Understanding Your Personality: Myers Briggs
This one is a classic. It provides a good foundation for understanding who you are. Self-awareness is so important for self-development so you’ll be giving yourself a jump start with this test. There are free versions of this test available online but I’ve linked the official website above.
Best Test for Learning What Drives You: Enneagram
This one is a more recent find for me but it has truly changed my perspective of myself and others around me. This test helps you understand your deepest desire, greatest fear and your blindspots. The Enneagram has changed the way I interact with my family, friends and co-workers. I’ve linked the official website above but I recommend you find your type with an enneagram coach. I also love this book.
